Why am I requested to change my email address when I log in?
Forced to change email address
unique email address requirement
Error Message (if available):
"Your current email (<email address>) is not unique and being shared by other member(s). You must change your email address."
Root Cause (if applicable):
Members are detected to be using or sharing the same email address as another member.
It is against VBit policy to share email addresses in our system.
The legacy system had allowed members, prior to December 2020, to signup with an email address in use by another member even though VBit policy does not allow this.
On November 2020, VBit sent an email to all members to remind them not to use shared email addresses in the system and asked members to change their email addresses.
As of December 2020, our new signup system no longer allows new members from signing up with an email address already assigned to another member.
On July 6th, 2021, VBit login system was enhanced to enforce unique email address requirements. Any members who are still using a non-unique email address and have not changed it will be detected upon logging in and required to change their email address before they can proceed.
If you believe your email address is unique and see this because of a glitch, please visit Help Center and request assistance.
Because our roadmap requires all members to have unique email addresses and unique mobile numbers, future targeted services relying on such factors cannot be released.
Shared email addresses:
Any members who are still sharing email addresses by September 1st, 2021, will have their account RESTRICTED AND their email address REMOVED from their account.
Shared Mobile Numbers:
Any members who are still sharing mobile numbers by October 1st, 2021, will have their account RESTRICTED AND their mobile number REMOVED from their account.
This ensures there are no conflicting email addresses or mobile numbers in the system by October 1st, 2021, and that we may deploy new features that depend on these.
Impacted members are required to request assistance through Help Center to update their email address and mobile number to re-enable access. Support will not add an email address or mobile number that is currently registered to another member.
Frequently Asked Questions
Question: Why does VBit require unique email addresses?
The primary reason is that this is our policy and has always been our policy; our legacy systems had allowed new members to register with the same email address even though this was not allowed by policy.
The second reason is email addresses are security devices for one-time-password (OTP) and should be uniquely assigned to only 1 member. OTP is unique and should only be sent to a single member.
The third reason is there are features we cannot deploy because members are sharing email addresses. Examples of features requested by members are sending funds to another member by their email address (or mobile number) and the ability to login to the VBit system using their email address.
Question: Why does VBit require a unique mobile number?
The primary reason is that a mobile number is used to receive a unique one-time-password (OTP) and should be assigned to only 1 member. For security reasons, OTP should only be sent to 1 member, and that member should be the mobile number owner.
